Minecraft Modding with Blockbench (Bedrock & Education Edition)
This live online weekly class introduces students to 3D modelling, texturing, and importing custom assets into Minecraft Bedrock or Education Edition. We will use Blockbench to create and modify 3D models such as custom blocks, items, and mobs. Students will learn how to create resource packs and combine them with behaviour packs for a more interactive and personalised Minecraft experience.
Fun Minecraft Modding Examples
- Turn ordinary glass into exploding TNT blocks.
- Give pigs a pair of wings to make them fly around your world.
- Transform a chicken into a fire-breathing dragon (complete with animated flames).
- Add a super-speed potion that makes players run incredibly fast.
- Create a magical sword that summons lightning bolts when you swing it.
With Minecraft modding, your imagination is the only limit!
Key Learning Outcomes:
- Understand the difference between Resource Packs and Behaviour Packs, and how to use both to customise Minecraft.
- Learn the basics of 3D modelling and texturing in Blockbench to create custom blocks, items, and mobs.
- Explore rigging and simple animation techniques, giving life to custom creatures.
- Discover how to structure and edit JSON files to define entity attributes and game behaviours.
- Develop and showcase a final project that demonstrates new skills in modelling, texturing, and in-game implementation.
Recommended Prerequisites & Requirements
- Minimum system requirements: Windows 10/11 PC or Apple Mac with OS12 or higher
- Recommended device RAM of 8GB
- Minecraft Bedrock or Education Edition installed on a compatible device.
- Blockbench installed for 3D modelling, texturing, and animations.
- Basic familiarity with Minecraft gameplay and file management.
- A laptop/computer or tablet with the Zoom installed.
It is highly recommended that you use two devices, one to work on, and the other for Zoom where the tutor will be sharing his or her screen and communicating with your child. A mobile phone isn’t ideal for Zoom as the screen is too small.
This class runs like an after school club. There is a class once a week every week at the same time. Minecraft coding sessions last an hour.
